About The Event

On April 15, Chaitanya Science and Arts College in Pamgarh hosted a one-day online workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Patent, and Design Filing in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Nagpur.

The main speaker was Mr. Kumar Raju, Assistant Controller at RGNIIPM. Other notable guests included Mr. Abhishek Ranjan Kumar from the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell and Dr. (Mrs.) Garima Tiwari, Assistant Professor at Guru Ghasidas Central University, Bilaspur.

The workshop began with a prayer to Goddess Saraswati. Coordinator Dr. Narendra Guriya welcomed the guests and introduced them.

Key points from the event:

  • Mr. Kumar Raju explained that intellectual property is an intangible asset born from human intellect. He discussed the basics of IPR, the importance of protecting it, and detailed various forms like patents, copyrights, designs, GI tags, and trade secrets.

  • Mr. Abhishek Ranjan Kumar highlighted the relevance of IPR, emphasizing its necessity for societal welfare rather than mere profit. He also debunked common myths surrounding IPR and spoke of India's vast potential in this field.

  • Dr. Garima Tiwari discussed IPR in relation to types and quality of knowledge, citing the Doha WTO summit. She stressed the role of IPR in a growing knowledge-based economy and mentioned its significance in the New Education Policy.

  • Principal Dr. V.K. Gupta encouraged students to explore patent journals and global registrations to fuel innovation.

  • Chairman Mr. Virendra Tiwari congratulated the organizers and advocated for more such events to inspire creativity among students.

  • Faculty members, including Mr. Vivek Joglekar and Mrs. Shubhada Joglekar, emphasized the need to increase scientific thinking and proper documentation of creative works.

The event concluded with an enthusiastic response from students who actively participated and asked insightful questions. Special thanks were extended by Assistant Professor Bhagwati Sahu. The event was supported by faculty members and technicians from various departments, with large participation from staff and research students across institutions.
